
Stephanie Brown taught reading and social studies in the Baltimore City
school system from 1975-1980. In 1980, she began her work with the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for the state of Maryland at the
Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents - a residential and day
treatment facility for troubled youth. Within the facility, Mrs. Brown was
responsible for the management and implementation of both state and federal
special education laws and processes. In this role, Mrs. Brown served on
Baltimore County's central IEP team as well as various Local Coordinating
Council (LCC) throughout the state. Mrs. Brown supervised students
admissions, discharged and follow-up processing through direct communication
with teachers, counselors, government officials, and service agencies. Upon
her retirement in December of 2004, Mrs. Brown received a service citation
from Governor Ehrlich for her 28 years of outstanding service.
